The Genesis of Butterfly Rise
"My partner and fellow co-founder of LoopPool, Lijin He, graciously introduced me to the extraordinary pianist Huijin Han at the Kühlhaus Berlin*, a vibrant space where creativity and excellence converge. We were there, producing a prom video in the Kubus—a renowned event venue that hosts illustrious music festivals and prestigious concerts by the Philharmonie Berlin.
From the very first note, I was captivated by Huijin’s artistry; her hands danced across the Steinway Grand with the grace and energy of a whirlwind, embodying the delicate yet powerful spirit of a Butterfly in flight. It was a moment of pure magic that transcended words.
Later, we connected over our shared passion for music and light. I had the privilege of sharing my past live performances with Light Membranes, and together, we envisioned a collaborative masterpiece. Inspired by the transformative journey of a Butterfly, I proposed we create a piece that embodies metamorphosis, resilience, and renewal—an ode to the power of transformation and artistic evolution.
This encounter reaffirmed my belief in the limitless potential of collaboration and the profound beauty that arises when art and passion intertwine."

The genesis of Butterfly Rise unfolded in the vibrant heart of Artloft Berlin during autumn 2024. In those first improvisational sessions, Huijin Han (Piano & E-Piano) and Loudwig van Ludens (Lou Fiat Lux) came together not as mere performers, but as explorers on the threshold of possibility. Their shared journey was fueled by a spirit of discovery—a willingness to let intuition and experience guide them, rather than any fixed vision of the outcome.
Within the loft’s creative sanctuary, they invited sound and light to dance, intertwining and morphing in ways that felt almost alchemical. Equipment became an extension of their senses; boundaries between three-dimensional space, technology, and linear time began to dissolve. Every note, every flicker, every resonance was a step deeper into an anamalgam—a new realm where art, energy, and emotion coalesce.
There was no script, only the question: “If it feels good, we go on.” This mantra liberated them, fostering a space where instinct led the way and limitations were gently overthrown. As we journeyed together, Ismael Zouaoui & Alisa Nedashkovska from Elektropolis joined the sessions with mystic soundscapes, and it became a living tapestry, weaving moments of pure immersion that would soon evolve into the Butterfly Rise performance—a testament to the magic that can emerge when artists trust the process and surrender to inspiration.
